چکیده

Methods Details for International ECMO centres were obtained from our database used in previous surveys. Survey questions were developed through an iterative process and assessed for content and face validity. None of the survey domains were mandatory. This resulting 38-question online survey was emailed to 161 eligible ECMO centres using Smart Survey (Smartline International Ltd, Gloucestershire, UK). Sole paediatric centres were excluded. The need for informed consent was waived by the local research and ethics committee.

Recirculation during veno-venous extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation--a simulation study.

PURPOSE Veno-venous ECMO is indicated in reversible life-threatening respiratory failure without life-threatening circulatory failure. Recirculation of oxygenated blood in the ECMO circuit decreases efficiency of patient oxygen delivery but is difficult to measure. We seek to identify and quantify some of the factors responsible for recirculation in a simulation model and compare with clinical ...

Systematic review and meta-analysis of complications and mortality of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for refractory acute respiratory distress syndrome

Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for refractory acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a rapidly expanding technique. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the most recent literature to analyse complications and hospital mortality associated with this technique. Using the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analysis, MEDLINE and EMBASE ...

Veno–veno–arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment in patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and septic shock

In acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with refractory septic shock, isolated veno–venous (VV) or veno–arterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may lead to differential hypoxia or inadequate tissue perfusion [1]. In this context, MacLaren et al. [2] showed that central ECMO improved the outcomes by guaranteeing systemic oxygenation without differential hypoxia. However, c...

Veno-venous ECMO: a synopsis of nine key potential challenges, considerations, and controversies

BACKGROUND Following the 2009 H1N1 Influenza pandemic, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) emerged as a viable alternative in selected, severe cases of ARDS. Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a major public health problem. Average medical costs for ARDS survivors on an annual basis are multiple times those dedicated to a healthy individual. Advances in medical and ventilatory...

Impact of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support on clinical outcome of pediatric patients with acute cardiopulmonary failure: a single-center experience.

BACKGROUND Conventional therapy against acute pediatric cardiopulmonary failure (APCPF) caused by a variety of disease entities remains unsatisfactory with extremely high morbidity and mortality. For refractory APCPF, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is one of the last resorts. METHODS In this study, the in-hospital outcomes of pediatric patients with refractory APCPF receiving ECMO...
